The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) held its annual award ceremony last night in NYC. The Oscars of Fashion did not disappoint and key heads of fashion state were fully prepared to inspire awe. Since its inception in 1962, the mission of CFDA has been to promote fashion as a branch of American art and culture. You have to remember at that time European countries were primarily running the fashion industry, and the CFDA wished to plant the seeds of fashion as a commodity right here. In light of this mission, the CFDA votes and announces a winner each year in certain categories. The President of the CFDA has since 2009 been Diane Von Furstenberg, who is one of my all time favorite designers and a truly inspirational female role model that I look up to (not impressed? Read a biography of her extraordinary life)!
Womenswear Designer of the Year: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen for The Row
Accessory Designer of the Year: Reed Krakoff
Swarovski Award, Womenswear: Joseph Altuzarra
Swarovski Award, Accessory Design: Tabitha Simmons
Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award: Tommy Hilfiger
Media Award: Scott Schuman & Garance Doré

You rounded up the best and brightest looks from the awards and I couldn’t agree more with you about how amazing DVF is. She’s one of the best women in the business and she’s done so much for women (beyond fashion) it’s nothing short of inspirational!
Thanks and agreed! xoxo
